“Right now, my life is on a different path and I want to see where this road leads,” says Dice in the characteristically cool, calm and collected demeanor that we’ve come to know and love her to possess on the VH1 hit reality show, La La’s Full Court Life. “Not everyone gets the opportunity to be on TV, so I want to use my platform and my voice to give back.”
This new path includes a bevy of opportunities opening up for her to serve others and it’s a direction she’s confident her life should go.
“People look at me and don’t think I have a college degree, let alone a master’s degree with a 4.0 average,” she says of her image. “They see me on TV all tatted up and hosting parties, which is all fun, but my heart is with speaking with teens about being yourself and spreading the anti-bullying message,” Dice reveals.
As an only child growing up in Georgia, Dice says she was very shy and her parents made education a priority, so she immersed herself in school as well as sports. “Life growing up for me was regular, I was a good little girl and never got in any trouble.”
Dice’s life continued in Georgia as she went to high school and college. She received her undergraduate degree in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) from North Carolina A&T State University. Dice followed that up, by finding time between television tapings, to seclude herself in her academic studies, to achieve a master’s degree in the same field- graduating summa cum laude.
She also began spending more time with her cousin La La Anthony (then La La Vasquez) who was on the rise to success as a radio and TV personality. “I was always with my cousin throughout her career in radio and then MTV, and still to today,” Dice recalls. “Being shy and quiet, I was always behind the scenes.”
But everything changed in 2010 when her cousin’s wedding became a VH1 special, La La’s Full Court Wedding, and instead of playing the background, where she was so comfortable, Dice was front and center for all the pre-wedding details. It’s just so funny now how the tables have turned and I’m now on TV,” she says, “but it all started from the wedding special.”
“At first it was hard having cameras in my face, I was self-conscious about saying too much,” Dice remembers. “True fans who have been watching the show from the start can see how I’ve evolved. There’s no holds barred with me now, I don’t even see the cameras. I say what I want to say and do what I want do. I’m 100 percent more comfortable. ”
Dice is always full of swagger and a great sense of humor. But as funny as she is, Dice has a serious side as well. An academic at heart, this scholar has always strived for success at the collegiate level. Just as comfortable in a library as she is sitting courtside, Dice impressed while attending North Carolina A&T State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in OSHA and then her master’s degree in the same subject, graduating summa cum laude with a perfect 4.0.
